About the Role

Reports To: Marketing & Innovation Director

The Innovation function is seen as the key driver in providing aggressive top-line growth and increasing bottom-line results.  The overall goal of innovation is to assist UBL’s growth into new markets, improve quality, extend EABL’s product range, improve production processes and make cost savings.

Purpose of Role:

The role holder will be responsible for the development and execution of the company’s strategic innovation program for UBL (key pillar for Growth).   He/she will be responsible for the development and execution of a robust pipeline to deliver on NSV commitments, Pipeline outputs and portfolio gaps within the business.   

The role holder will be responsible for delivering innovation programs at pace and scale that are critical to the business strategy and will generate steady growth for the company. To transform UBL to being the most innovative company in Diageo and become the single largest growth contributor delivering 6% of Net Sales Value (NSV) growth and delivers 10% NSV growth.  Doing this will also help support Diageo Africa’s journey to transform its business. ​

  • Management of A & P investment by brand/project.

Top Accountabilities

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop a five year innovation pipeline in line with UBL’s business strategy and Global innovation ambition

  • Manage internal and external stakeholders to ensure the delivery of the business strategy including the development of cross functional teams to drive innovation execution

  • Execute the year on year innovation pipeline to ensure innovations deliver NSV commitments for the business

  • Continuously evaluate pipeline fit within the portfolio and advise Global teams and local executive teams on solutions and focus for the period

  • Deliver commercially grounded innovative solutions and project proposals on time and budget

  • Identify and deliver incremental and scalable ideas to drive organic growth.

  • Ensure that opportunities are grounded in superior consumer insights, consumer scope research and changing consumer trends

  • Grow innovations into sustainable brands that add value to their trademark and/or total business if they are new to world

  • Manage innovation performance month on month to ensure achievement of KPI’s

  • Manage, develop and motivate the innovations team to achieve planned KPI’s

Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or a business related field.

  • Minimum 5 years in Sales/ Marketing /Innovation or New Business Development at a FMCG company.

  • Knowledge and understanding of Consumer Insight generation, advertising, media concepts, Strategy formulation, Trade channels and their working.

  • Project Management Capability
